The invitations are out, the excitement is swelling, the food has been planned, but this year something is quite different; Jesus is on that invitation list and has accepted your invitation!

But now you start to think about the other family members that said they were also coming. Suddenly you remember Aunt Aggie, who always seem to arrive after she has already started her favorite “tonics.” Then there is Uncle George, who recently lost his wife and is yet actively grieving. Sadness will no doubt cast a somber shadow wherever he will be. Oh, and you should not forget your nephew Andy, who is married to a very verbal atheist. Oh, dear you think, you were so happy, but now you are not sure what to do!

As your mind is whirling, you remember the football game. When will they watch the game? It is usually the topic of the conversation during the meal, and sometimes they even leave the table early when it is time for the game to begin.

Your thoughts may be, “I must make a new list.” Just the “right” people! All must be perfect for Jesus, from the guests to the food!

Wait a minute. Jesus invites all of us to stop and think. Why is He coming? We believe He is coming to minister, as is recorded in John 10:10 There are over 35 texts that show us Christ, in meal settings where he had planned specific goals. They range from teaching to the desire to engage hearts and to reveal His plan to show those hearts His great love. The feeding of the five thousand is recorded in all four gospels! A magnificent demonstration of sensitivity and the vast depths of His care for His children.

So, yes, invite Jesus, and do not change the guest list or the food! And place Jesus at the head of the table. Making this decision will change the entire day! Ministry will be the focus, and joy will pervade every heart, including yours!
