It was the perfect Fall Day. The sun was shining brightly with few clouds, as myriads of multicolored leaves floated lazily through the cool, sweet-smelling air.

My schedule was lighter than usual, and I looked forward to a break from the recent intensity at work. Then I received the call; a friend was laden with a serious family issue and needed a listening ear as soon as possible. As we spoke, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me, “When you have done it unto the least of these you have done it unto me!” Matt. 25:40

Immediately, we set up an appointment. My friend loved the outdoors, so I planned for us to meet on another friend’s newly purchased farm. I understood there were many trails, so perfect for walking and talking with Jesus! Micah 6:8

The trails were indeed inviting as we became lost in her family challenges, not paying attention to the way we had come. Soon it was clear that the sun was setting and we were not nearing any homes. We longed for even the bark of a dog! As fear rose in our hearts, we stopped, prayed, and were impressed to turn around. Having covered only a short distance, we heard the bark of a dog! Turning in the direction of the longed-for sound, and with hurried steps, we followed it, and soon we saw lights. Looking closer, one of the houses sat on the farm where we started our walk! We were lost so close to home!

I am reminded of the prodigal son (Luke 15: 11-32) who left home to be found, while his older brother stayed home to be lost. We took the trail for granted after all we were close to the house. We could always just turn around. We kept walking even though the sun was setting.

Do I live this life taking God for granted? He is love, so He will save me no matter what. He is love and wants His children to be saved, so I can accept Him and live however I desire.

Not only does He state that He is the light of the world, John 12:8, but in Matthew 4:14 He clearly shares, “Ye are the light of the world!” We must live and follow Him in such a way that His light shines through our lives, showing others the way to his heart. Ezekial 36:26
